Murray Long is a leading Canadian Privacy Consultant.

He helped draft the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Privacy Code that is built into Canada’s new private sector privacy laws. In 1997 he established his own consulting practice and has provided privacy guidance to organizations in the telecommunications, broadcasting, financial, transportation, retail, franchising and charitable sectors as well as to federal and provincial government agencies.

Mr. Long writes and speaks extensively about privacy law. He has written on-line privacy courses in collaboration with ENS eLearning Solutions Inc. and was the author of a CD ROM-based privacy training tool for the CSA. Along with Suzanne Morin, a senior lawyer at Bell Canada, he is co-author of the Canadian Privacy Law Handbook, the first annotated guide to the new law, published in June, 2000. He also regularly writes, edits and publishes PrivacyScan, a newsletter on privacy law compliance.

Robert Parker is a partner in the Toronto Office of Deloitte & Touche – Canada, where he has national responsibility for the firm’s Personal Information Privacy practice. He has been involved in information technology and computer security and control since the late 1960’s. He has authored a number of articles and books, including three books on microcomputers published by Prentice-Hall, Inc., four books on Year 2000, and was the Project Director on the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants publication Information Technology Control Guidelines that provides over 400 pages of guidance to technology professionals.

He served on the International Board of Directors of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association from 1979 to 1991 and was International President in 1986-1987. He continues to be active in the Association serving on their Strategy Committee and the Research Board of the IT Governance Institute.

He was the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants representative on an ISO personal information privacy committee from 1995 through its completion in 1997, and is currently assisting clients in assessing their current readiness and future strategy to deal with Canada’s new Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. He is also a member of the Security and Privacy sub committee of the Canadian eBusiness Initiative. The CeBI comprises over 70 business, professional, academic and government representatives.

He is a founding member of the AICPA-CICA joint Canada - United States Enterprise-Wide Privacy Task Force that has developed principles and guidelines to provide a framework for assessing compliance with Canadian and US privacy legislation. He is currently the chair of the CICA’s Privacy Advisory Group which promotes privacy amongst businesses and professionals in Canada.

He recently developed the Canadian Bankers Association’s, Industry Canada, Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants eBusiness security and privacy seminar, currently presented in over 50 cities across Canada.

He is a frequent author and presenter, having presented sessions on privacy in Canada, the United States and in Europe and having been published or quoted in a number of recognized magazines and journals.

Eloïse Gratton, L.L.M., L.L.B., Technology Counsel, McMillan Binch Mendelsohn

Gratton practices in the areas of corporate, commercial and information technology law in the Montreal office of McMillan Binch Mendelsohn. Before joining the firm, Gratton acted as Director of Corporate & Legal Affairs for a wireless technology company.  She serves as legal counsel for the Toronto-based Society of Internet Professionals and acts as Vice-Chair for the Canadian IT Law Association Ad hoc Privacy Committee and as Senior Consultant (Quebec) for the Canadian Privacy Institute. Ryk Edelstein is the founder and president of Converge Net Inc. a Montreal based network services provider focusing on the efficiency, security and management of data communication networks. Scott Allen

Scott Allen currently holds the post of Director of Technical Marketing at Network General Corporation. Allen brings more than 20 years of experience in selling, designing, implementing and marketing networks and security infrastructures to his role at Network General.

Allen has been with Network General since October of 2004. His responsibilities are to oversee, manage, and direct all technical marketing aspects of the company. Scott is also responsible for understanding the Application and Network Performance Analysis marketplace and providing guidance to customers regarding the direction of the industry.

In the past, Allen has held several Senior and Executive Management, Engineering and Network Architecture positions at companies including Network General, Network Associates, Nexvu Technologies, Intermountain Health Care, Connecting Point, and ComputerLand.
Dr. Michael Geist is a law professor at the University of Ottawa where he holds the Canada Research Chair of Internet and E-commerce Law. He has obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees from Cambridge University in the UK and Columbia Law School in New York, and a Doctorate in Law (J.S.D.) from Columbia Law School. Dr. Geist has written numerous academic articles and government reports on the Internet and law, is a member of Canada’s National Task Force on Spam, is a nationally syndicated columnist on technology law issues for the Toronto Star and Ottawa Citizen, and is the author of the textbook Internet Law in Canada (Captus Press) which is now in its third edition. He is the editor of the Canadian Privacy Law Review and the creator of privacyinfo.ca, one of Canada’s leading privacy websites.
